Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, sugar, eggs, milk, and softened butter to the bowl. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Add chocolate chips and knead to incorporate.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down dough and turn onto a lightly floured surface. Roll into a large rectangle.
  7. Cut dough into desired shapes (e.g., triangles for croissants, squares for danishes).
  8. Shape the dough pieces (e.g., roll up triangles into croissants).
  9. Place shaped dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30-60 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  11. Brush tops with egg wash and sprinkle with additional chocolate chips, if desired.
  12. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  13. Let cool on a wire rack before serving.
