Ellu Thovayal (Sesame Chutney)

Ingredients

  1. Heat a little oil in a pan.
  2. Add channa dal, urad dal, jeera, garlic cloves, and dry red chilies, and roast until golden.
  3. Add sesame seeds and sauté until they start to pop.
  4. Add grated coconut, curry leaves, and tamarind, sauté for 2 minutes and switch off the heat.
  5. Let this cool.
  6. Transfer to a blender with some salt and a little water and blend into a coarse paste.
  7. Serve with a drizzle of sesame oil or ghee.
