Warm Tofu with Spicy Garlic Sauce

  1. Cut a block of firm tofu in half.
  2. Place the tofu pieces in a saucepan.
  3. Cover the tofu with water.
  4. Bring the water to a simmer.
  5. Turn the heat to low and keep covered for about 20 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, mince one clove of garlic with a pinch of salt and transfer to a bowl.
  7. Add a quarter cup chopped scallions, two teaspoons toasted sesame seeds, three tablespoons soy sauce, one tablespoon sesame oil, and a half teaspoon of sugar to the bowl with the garlic.
  8. Stir together then add a teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes if you wish.
  9. After about 20 minutes, transfer the tofu to bowls.
  10. Spoon the spicy garlic sauce over the top.
  11. Serve immediately, optionally alongside broiled broccoli.
